Contested case petitioners E. Kalani Flores and Deborah Ward took the stand representing themselves. Both are part of group of petitioners who initiated the Hawaii Supreme Court appeal that led to the ongoing contested case hearings.

1/25 Peter Mills testifies for TMT opponents
Day 30 of the contested case hearings took place in Hilo today. Peter Mills, an anthropology professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, testified against the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope. As a qualified archaeologist, Mills said he felt the contractors hired by TMT did a good job in physically conducting archaeological inventory surveys to search for potential cultural findings at the planned TMT site.

During cross-examination, attorney Lincoln Ashida representing the pro-TMT Native Hawaiian group PUEO (Perpetuating Unique Educational Opportunities), used the moment to bring up a scientific poll taken last year regarding the TMT project.
