“The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank, recently received a $100,000 donation from the Thirty Meter Telescope to aid families struggling with food insecurity.

In recent weeks the local nonprofit — much like many other state and city food banks throughout the country — has reported an increase in food insecurity as a result of job losses related to the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The funding donated by TMT will be used to support The Food Basket’s existing programs, including Ohana Drops, the Kupuna Pantry and Da Box Program.”
